Mountaineer Kids Club
West Virginia University Child Development & Family Support Services and the Student Recreation Center (SRC) jointly offer the Mountaineer Kids Club (MKC), a flex-care center for children located in the SRC. A staff provides safe and developmentally appropriate activities for children aged six weeks through twelve years while their parents are using the facility.
To join, the parents must be a WVU student or employee with membership to the SRC. An on-site registration must be completed.
Mountaineer Kids Club provides the visiting children with many play options. The infant room is designed for infants and young toddlers and provides an area for small group interaction, play, gross motor development, and sleep.
The preschool area is designed similar to a traditional child care area. The children have opportunities to participate in the reading corner, play with manipulatives, explore the sensory table, climb on the loft, build with blocks, create a masterpiece at the art table or on the easel, and pretend in the dress-up and home living areas.
The school-age room provides an area where older children can enjoy themselves while engaging in age appropriate activities. This room provides an area for homework, computer play, table games, and a PlayStation with games encouraging physical activity.
Security is a top priority at the Mountaineer Kids Club. The reception area is staffed by a Mountaineer Kids Club team member that monitors the sign in/out area. Parents are also provided with a belt-clip pager that ensures communication at all times.
